New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori led his team from the front by hitting a wonderful century to salvage his team from an embarrassing 60-6 position. Jesse Ryder also played well supporting his captain and scored a debut ton off his willow. The newcomer was the last batsman to be out for kiwis. The pair added very good 186 runs for 7th wicket. Vettori indeed hit 14 smash buckling fours and sent 2 off the boundary line for 6s. It was Vettori’s 3rd test century and he was out at 118 runs.
The pick of the bowlers amongst Indians is the fast bowler Ishant Sharma who claimed 4 wickets for 73 runs.
India started off their first innings and without losing a wicket scored 29 runs. Viru scored some super fast runs and it was a treat to watch him hit 3 boundaries in a Kyle Mills’ over. He was not out at 22 runs. Tomorrow’s first session will be important and will be interesting to see how Sehwag will negotiate the first few overs.
