10 Lac bookings in 2 weeks, and that’s Tata Nano. The world’s cheapest car Tata Nano is just a couple of days away from its much awaited launch. Better still, its all set for yet another milestone. Tata Motors is expecting that the small car bookings will be about 10 lacs within 15 days of its launch starting 23rd March 2009. Fiat Uno had a similar response when it was launched with about close to 3 lac booking 13 years back during 1995 and 1996.
As already known Tata Nano could be booked with 70% upfront payment which simply means that there will be 7k crore collected within 2 weeks’ time.
The bookings can be done at select branches of State Bank of India and all Tata Motors dealers across the nation.
However, the first batch of Nanos will be from Tata’s Pantnagar Plant and the plant is capacitated to produce 3000 units in a month. It will only be easing when the Sanand Plant in Gujarat becomes functional from next year as it can produce about 250k cars a year.
Crisil already suggested that Indian car market will inflate by over 65% with Tata Nano which will boost car sales by about one fifth of the current.
If you are lucky you could be proud owner of first batch of Nano. A black market is expected to open in parallel to the Tata Motors for the fact that allotment would be through draw.
