Hazardous Pa. Acid Spill in Pennsylvania – 5K evacuated
Orders to move about 5000 in North-East Pennsylvania due to Hydrofluoric
acid leak from a tanker, is still in effect. The truck was carrying a cargo of about 16 tons quantity of HF acid and it capsized about 60 miles at Wind Gap on north of Philadelphia spilling the acid all over.
John Conklin, Northampton spokes person says that his hazardous/toxic materials team personnel evaded a danger by stopping the acid drip. There are no reports of toxic cloud in the surrounding areas, in which case it would have been really dangerous.
Inhalation of the Hydrofluoric acid can be hazardous and it can even cause death, according to experts. In low doses; however, the acid can cause irritation of eyes, nose, throat and the respiratory tract.
