Preity Zinta is back with ‘Videsh’
Our Perky Preity is back. And this time with Deepa Mehta’s film ‘Heaven On Earth’ (‘Videsh’ in India). One of the stars in Bollywood couple of years ago, the dimpled girl had her fans disappoined for her sudden disappearance from the big screen. Though she was always in limelight for her IPL team, she was dearly missed in cinemas. She was heard quoting that she had no regrets taking such a long break from being usual lively bubby sels.”Videsh” shall be Zinta’s major Bollywood release since “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom” in 2007. Preity has been shunning the usual candyfloss roles in Bollywood films of late. She is experimenting with different roles in The Last Lear , Har Pall and the recently released Heroes. And for all the sacrifices Preity has won Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress “for her strong yet subtle performance as a woman struggling to keep her dreams despite brutal realities” at the Chicago film festival last year.
Toronto based director,Ms.Mehta has always been a award material and this time around she has sculpt a very potent monument to the suffering of abused women. With a deft hand and measured heartache, the movie is weaved around the life of a young Indian bride Chane(Preity) who marries a Canadian man Rocky (Vansh Bhardwaj) in the hope of finding a better life, but soon finds herself battered and powerless in a strange landscape. The Punjabi wife soon becomes a victim of domestic violence. The film also stars Balinder Johal, Rajinder Singh Cheema, Ramanjit Kaur and Yanna McIntosh. While the award clearly states that our Preity Zinta has done a marvellous job in depicting the sad lives many such victims away from the country. Preity was all thanks to actor Anupam Kher for helping her hone her Punjabi diction requierd for the movie. Slated to release in India on March 27,2009, the movie has got an adult certificate for all the violence shown.
Similar movies have been made in Bollywood in the past and it would be interesting to see how this one fares at the box office The fans would have liked to see the pretty actress in a glamourous role, but they whole heartedly shall welcome this movie as well.
