The countdown begins. After a dramatic end to the 2008 season, with Hamilton taking away the championship and Massa loosing by a whisker, now it’s time again to face the action. Formula 1 world championship 2009 is going to kick off in Melbourne, Australia on Friday. It is surely going to be a tough season with all the new rules and regulation imposed by FIA. The rules stress more on the mechanical aspects rather than technical as compared to the previous seasons and it would be interesting to see how the teams will adapt to the changes introduced.

f12009Last season, we saw rookies like Kovalainen perform outstandingly well under tough conditions. Raikkonen was unfortunate during the start of the season and that saw him out of the race to the championship. Hopefully this year he will come back strong and give a tough fight to Hamilton and Massa. Alonso struggled with the Renault and never seemed to get over it. Kubica showed a lot of determination and kept throwing surprises throughout the season finishing up a few races on the podium. He ended 4th, sharing the same score as Raikkonen.

The cars will look amazing lined up on the grid with Slick tyres. Ferrari remains the favorite this season again, with the new F60. Riakkonen says ‘Ferrari F60 is a pleasure to drive’. However, the other teams are not too far behind. They all seemed to be very content and confident with the performance of their cars after 2 months of practice tests. McLaren and Renault will definitely be eyeing for the Constructors Trophy in 2009.

Canadian and French GP circuits are gone, in comes the brand new Abu Dhabi circuit. All the drivers stick to their teams except for Sebastian Vettel switching from Toro Rosso to Red Bull. That’s pretty much it considering the changes in this season.

So it’s time again, to gear up, for the racing action!
