Tata Motors may Launch Nano in the US by 2012
Wow! The waiting seizes and here comes what’s billed as almost world’s eighth wonder, the 1 lakh rupees car, Tata Nano. The mouth watering price of 1 lakh rupees is estimated to have a terrific response based on which the Tata Motors have distributed lakhs of applications all over India ever since its launch. The dream car of every middle and lower middle class family has just arrived and the world’s most inexpensive car is ready to take charge of the world! Yes, Tata Motors is all set to adorn its most precious jewel in the US market.
The American market already has small cars powered with V8 engines and are designed with loads of sheet metal. But the company has already started its study of the US four-wheeler market thoroughly and is eager to launch its Nano by 2012. But, it could well be a litmus test for the Tatas, as the car needs to meet their stringent emission and safety standards. Of course the current Nano will require undergoing some re-engineering to combat these hindrances. But this does not seem to worry the Tatas all that much as they have sorted out these issues for the car’s launch in the European market.
The company should also consider improving the interiors of the car. Although the company has hinted of designing a three-door Nano that will mainly cater to the younger consumer.
The pricing of the Nano for the US market is not yet established. Obviously, it will surely be higher in terms of US dollars but it needs to be lesser than the Hyundai Accent and Nissan Versa that are available for less than 10,000 USD currently.
The thought of selling a car such as Nano in the US could be quite challenging but the economic crisis faced by US customers has become a blessing in disguise. And, there is also this new bill introduced by the US Congress- providing an incentive of $4000 to trade the used car and buy a new car! And the only condition to avail this offer is the car must at least be 8 years old. Now, this will send some positive vibes to the Tata family and if the bill is passed selling the Nano will be a lot easier. And as Mr.Ratan Tata said that if the present economic situation sustains Nano is sure to make a mark.
