After settling for a draw in the 2nd test match against New Zealand, the Indians now head to Wellington for the third and final test. The 3rd Test in the National Bank Series between India – New Zealand will be played from Friday 3rd April to Tuesday 7th April. After a dubious show in the first innings, Indians recovered well in their second attempt and denied a victory to the Kiwis. Forced to follow on, their backs were against the wall and the top five had to stand tall and answer the intelligent bowling from the Kiwis. Gambhir and Laxman showed excellent batsman ship by curbing their natural style of game and adapting to the situation. Both scored deserving tons while Dravid, Sachin and Yuvraj played their part by scoring a half century each. Only disappointment was the Indian Stand-in Captain Virender Sehwag who failed both the times for almost nothing by his standards. The manner in which he ‘donated’ his wicket to the black caps, some are referring to it as being dumb. But the world knows what Sehwag is and hopes are on him to come good and answer his critics with his willow.
Dhoni likely to return and lead the men in blue, Indians have nothing to loose as they carry a 1-0 lead in the series to the NZ capital for the final test. The top five batsmen are in very good relationship with their forms currently and they would like a victory and the series to be taken back home as a sovenier from the New Zeland. The inconsistent bowling department may be a little concern as their vulnerability was indecently exposed by some brilliant Innings by the Kiwis. They would however like to gear up for their final stint at Wellington.
While the BLACKCAPS form batsmen had every right to feel good about themselves after the stalemate with India, the bowlers could be forgiven for eying the series final warily. To add some more venom and sting in the bowling dept for the Kiwis, Southee has been brought back in to the squad. The team is motivated and are confident after a very good show in the second test which contained several positives including Jesse Ryder’s 201, Ross Taylor’s 151 and 115 by Brendon McCullum. And of course some very consistent and intelligent bowling from Martin Vettori and Patel. The Kiwis would like a sweet victory as they eye the end of India’s tour.
