April 02, 2009 Bajaj Auto Is Granted Patent for Its ExhausTEC
India automotive giant Bajaj Auto is granted an engine technology patent. The news was revealed on April 02, 2009 and Bajaj won its legal battle with TVS Motor for the ExhausTEC engine.
A company press release signed by VP, Business Development, Mr. S Ravi Kumar, revealed that Bajaj Auto had been granted Patent # 231498 by the Indian Patent Office and it is published in the Patent Gazette last week (March 27, 2009).
The press release quotes “ExhausTEC significantly improves low/mid-range torque within a 1-cylinder 4-stroke engine employing a chamber of pre-determined volume attached to the exhaust pipe.”
Bajaj says that their ExhausTEC engine is fitted to several of their bike models released after August 2004 when it exactly applied for the patent of the technology.
A legal battle was opened in 2007 when Bajaj claimed that a twin spark technology used in TVS bike models is technology inspired from its own DTSi (digital twin spark ignition) technology and it also sued TVS for technology infringement of its ExhausTEC initiative as well. It’s a good news that Bajaj won the legal battle and its granted the patent for its latter technology.
