Will Google Buy Twitter ?

Submitted by nuklear on April 4, 2009 – 12:52 pmNo Comment

twitter googleGoogle is in frenzy. After getting busy with GDrive, Google earth 5.0 and the AdSense controversy, there are rumors that the giant is eying Twitter. It appears that talks have entered last stage and the estimated valuation is much in excess of $250 million, the starting point. It was reported in the techno blog Tech Crunch.

Surprisingly, Twitter refused a great offer of $500 million from Facebook last year, as it smelt something fishy going by the overvaluation of Facebook’s stocks. Evan Williams and Biz Stone, proud founders of Twitter, are not selling their kit to Google for the first time. They sold them Blogger some five years ago, though it was not a raging success to be frank. But then Google shaped another purchase, YouTube, into a money-spinner.

Twitter is a great reporting tool as it sends across messages to the sites and people carrying blackberries about fast updates in life. Ministers, sportsmen and other celebrities are getting into a habit of ‘tweeting’ their whereabouts and current conditions. It is especially handy for the journalists with commoners ‘tweeting’ (that is the word for a Twitter message) about an emergency, accident or a hot piece of news in their area. This makes them cover news fast.

Twitter has had a growth in clicks at an astounding rate of 794%. The ultra-active Twitter has very well covered the recent happenings. Word-of-mouth publicity has been enormous. Google may implement Twitter features into its search engine and get updated through RSS feeds and tweets.

Some fear that Google may start displaying ads on Twitter as a habit. Google has been a voracious provider of ads on YouTube after all. Others fear that at this rate, Internet would soon be Google’s private domain with Microsoft losing aggression of late. Last date for sealing Twitter date is 31st August 2009.
