Debbie Phelps, had become instantly popular when she received the Olympic bouquet from her son and Olympics
swimmer Michael Phelps. She had also become a celebrity when she wore and modeled clothes of Chico’s.
Michael Phelps hit headlines recently for smoking marijuana pipe, and this time Debbie Phelps hit the news; for a different reason though. She penned a book titled, “A Mother For All Seasons.”
It is believed that the book is her story as a mom as a single mom who raised three children while working in education. Debbie Phelps works as a middle school principal in the Baltimore area.
Debbie Phelps was quoted saying, “I’m a parent, and parents have disappointments in their life,” she says of the photo that showed her son smoking the marijuana. “It did not change my love for my son. It did not change the pride I had in his performance in Beijing. It didn’t change anything of that relationship I have with Michael.”
Michael Phelps won a record of 8 gold medals during the last summer’s Olympics at Beijing and after every time he used to run to his mom and gifted her with the victory bouquet he got.
She also addressed the situation of her son’s affair with marijuana in a sensitive way in the book. As any loving mother she says to her son, “whatever decision you make, Michael Phelps, your mother stands beside you.”
