A Megamouth Shark Caught in Philippines

Filipino fishermen had the largest catch – a megamouth shark and they feasted on it
Fishermen of Burias Island, central Philippines set off on March 30th on a fishing expedition never really anticipating to see something amazing in their lives. They thought wrong. To their amazement they had caught a megamouth shark, a rare fish in the world and an endangered species as well. The shark weighed 1.1k pound and measured a monstrous size of 13 feet.
The megamouth shark that was accidentally caught in the net is 41st one with only 40 others recorded by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund). The 1,1k-pound and 13-foot megamouth shark died before even the fisherman lay it outside the net and it was then lifted to Donsol town in the province of Sorsogon. Here the megamouth was cut and people feasted on it.
According to WWF, the megamouth sharks are docile and they have wide and blubbery mouths and only feed on the larvae of shrimp fish and some small animals. Gregg Yan a spokesperson for WWF remark that this catch was tagged “Megamouth 41″:the 41st megamouth recorded in the world by Florida Museum of Natural History and the 8th one that’s reported to have been encountered in the Philippine region.
