Somali Pirates Seize Ship – 21 Americans Aboard
Somali pirates on a hijacking spree-Today it is US’ Maersk Alabama with all-American crew
US Navy confirmed reports of US ship hijack by Somali pirates. On Wednesday Somali pirates took control of a US borne cargo vessel and hijacked it. The ship on board has 21 crew members. The vessel 17k-ton Maersk Alabama has all-US crew.
The US Navy confirms that the ship was hijacked off the eastern coast of Somalia early Wednesday morning.
US Navy spokesman said that about 450 kilometers northeast of Eyl, is where the pirates seized control of the ship.
Further confirmation came that the ship is being operated by one Maersk, a Danish company and it looks after US Department of Defense deals. However, it is still not clear at this point in time if the ship is on a defense contract at the time of hijack.
Maersk Alabama is the sixth ship in the recent times to be hijacked by the notorious pirates and first one with all-US crew on board.













The Pentagon says it appears the American crew of a hijacked ship has regained control of the vessel.

The Captain of the ship Richard Phillips, was held hostage by the Somali pirates until recently but now the scene is they are demanding ransom in exchange of the captain and they said will not hesitate to kill the Captain Richard Phillips.
US on the other hand is strengthening to send warships to Somalia capital Mogadishu.
The Somali pirates’ have a plan to network with other colleague pirates that have other hostages, and take Richard Phillips there so rescuing him becomes difficult.
The US Bainbridge is some hundred yards away from the pirates with rescue helicopters lifeboats and stuff like that out of range of fire of the pirates.
Negotiations are going on between the pirates and the Bainbridge Captain.
US Central Command Chief General David Petraeus confirmed that even US warships are headed to the place some 300 miles off the Somalia’s coast on Indian Ocean side.
President Barack Obama is kept updated about the standoff did not show inclination to answer to media questions.

The pirates are extorting tens of millions of dollars in ransoms by hijacking vessels and ships and are becoming international menace.
