Not just by name, but it is also the richest state in India, contributing to 15% of the country’s industrial output and 13.2% of its GDP in year 2005-06. It is located in western coast of country. It is India’s third largest state by area and second largest by population. The capital is Mumbai, which is India’s financial capital and  also the largest city. It is also the second largest producer of films in the world. The cosmopolitan style of living of the people makes it a unique city. The state today has become a major destination for the film stars and cultural celebrities.  Marathi is the official language although Konkani is also spoken in few coastal areas.
