oracle to buy sun microsystems

Oracle Corporation has plans to foray into the hardware market and the company it can become possible through buying Sun Microsystems Inc. Oracle is already baiting in $7 billions and even more once the talks between Sun Microsystems Inc and IBM failed.

On Monday several Oracle watchers had this announcement and they believe that Oracle could boost profitability with the software businesses but are quite apprehensive about profitability with the Sun’s hardware. It surely has adversaries in IBM, Hewlett-Packard Co, Dell Inc. as well as Cisco Systems Inc.

Oracle will pay $9.50 per share to the Sun Microsystems Inc. that values the top-end server and software maker at over $7 billion, and this is based on its 743 million shares, which are outstanding as on December 2008.

According to some reliable source, Sun Microsystems Inc rejected the IBM’s offer of paying up to $9.40 per share.

As soon as the announcement came in the shares of Sun Microsystems scaled by over 35.7 per cent to about $9.08 while that of Oracle dropped by 3.7 percent to about $18.36 at Nasdaq trading on the NYSE.

It will be interesting to watch if Oracle can buy the Sun Microsystems Inc. Oracle aims to make its hardware division a profitable venture and this deal will set the path right for Oracle as insiders say.
