Live IPL Preview: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings Semi Final 2 (May 23 – 8 PM) in Johannesburg Preview

csk vs rcb

We have seen almost a one-sided Semi-final 1 where the Deccan Chargers thrashed the Delhi Daredevils. Adam Gilchrist proved to world yet again that he is unstoppable on his day. He had achieved a rare distinction yesterday when he reached his fastest 50 in IPL. When Gilchrist was there, it was raining only boundaries and sixes for the Deccan Chargers and the opposition remained mere spectators.

I sympathize with Sehwag and his men, for they played undoubtedly very good cricket with just 5 losses in all 15 matches, there has been no other team that came close to them, yet Gilchrist changed their IPL Final fate by scripting a victory for his team.

My guts were saying Deccan Chargers will win, and they never got me wrong. We will see another semi-final today when Chennai Super Kings will take on the Revival Challengers Bangalore …I mean …the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Head on meets between the two teams do not give us any clues as because both teams won 2 each. However the overall T20 match record wins are higher for the Super Kings.

Surprisingly it will be another team from South to storm into the DLF IPL 2009 Finals whether it is CSK or RCB.

Bangalore had a good start under KP’s leadership by thrashing Rajasthan Royals in their first match. However, later they had lost 4 matches in a row to find them in mess again, Anil Kumble took over the reins and he worked magic with his spin bowling as well as leadership, RCB won 6 in 8 under Kumble’s captaincy and slowly stormed to semis with 3 consecutive wins!

They are currently in-form and will go clash the Super Kings on Saturday.

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings had a mixed bag of results; they lost their first match to Mumbai Indians and after having just 1 in 5 opening games, they were almost written off. They fought back again and won 7 of their 9 matches to see them in this stage; a second spot after Delhi Daredevils in the points table. Super Kings have more all rounders than any other team in fact, which adds strength to their team in fact to push them a step forward into the tournament.

But Bangalore has their top players in form and we saw a sudden hero in Manish Pandey who became first Indian to get a century. Ross Taylor looks to be in great nick as well, Kallis is good with willow and ball, and a decent fielder Roelof Van Merwe has turned out to be all rounder; he bowls well and can hit the ball out of sight on his day. We know what Muralitharan can do and if Rahul Dravid stands as wall in the middle, there is a chance to put up a good total. We have not seen Mark Boucher as the destroyer in this tournament so far, but we know he is capable.

Will it be young Dhoni’s men or Kumble’s veteran team who will go to the last 2? I will put my money on Kumble’s resurgent team!
