Dubare Forest, Karnataka, India

elephantsDubare Forest is situated in Coorg, Karnataka state, India. Like any other forests of South India, Dubare’s rich bio-diversity and captivating dense vegetation attracts thousands of variety of birds from around the world. Elephants are the main attraction for tourists and nature lovers. River rafting, fishing, trekking, elephant ride, greenery and typical home stays are few of the exciting things tourists would want to experience in Dubare.
River Kaveri flows in the middle of the forest in a very spectacular style. Lot of people spend hours together playing in the water here. If you are lucky enough you will as well get a chance to witness mahout scrub-bathing his elephants in the river. Tourists come to visit Elephant training camp put up on the bank of the river where all the most famous elephants that perform in Mysore Dasara are trained with more than 150 wild elephants. Tourists love to spend time feeding bananas to the elephants and taking blessings from them.
If you are looking forward to do some wild life photography, this is the place to be. kaveriYou can take a ride on elephants into the forest and do not forget to carry a binocular with you because you might miss out on witnessing beautiful birds like woodpeckers, humming birds, partridges, kingfishers, peacock etc. Most commonly seen animals are elephants, bison, sambhar, spotted deer. Dubare is also home for reptiles like crocodile and water snakes.
Distance: From Bangalore it is 230 kms (takes four and a half hours) and from Mysore it is 75 kms (takes not more than 2 hours).
