2009 seem to be a sports fan’s year. We have had IPL, then French Open and then ICC T20 2009 and then the formula one 2009 grand prix weekends and then come August and September we have one of the richest tournaments of the tennis Grand slam- The US Open 2009 which is celebrating its 125th year.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams lifted the US Open Tennis trophy 2008 defeating Andy Murray and Jelena Jankovic in their respective categories. So, from grass court to clay and now being played in Deco Turf, an acrylic hard court, US Open tennis has always been dominated by the Americans.

The US Open Grand Slam is hosted by USTA National Tennis Center, offering exorbitant prize money; almost more than $20 million. The 2009 US Open Tennis contest is expected to be exciting for tennis fans worldwide as because Federer is again regaining his form and proved a point to all those critics who started writing him off, by winning the French Open Men’s Singles finals that concluded a couple of days ago.

We will again see Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer fighting for title or there are many budding and promising tennis talents who can spring a surprise or two. In the womens Serena Williams, the defending US Open champion will leave no stones unturned to win it yet again, while world number one Dinara Safina will make it count here in US Open.

Some of the legends of US open tennis tournament include John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Chris Evert, Pete Sampras and of course Martina Navratilova. However, it is the legendary tennis icon Bjorn Borg who played four US Open Finals not winning for even once.

So, wait and watch if Roger Federer can break the record of Pete Sampras’ 14 Grand Slam titles. He is just one short and many million eyes will be fixed on him to see his shots and strategies on 31 August – 13 September, 2009, at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at Flushing Meadows, New York City.
