Roger Federer Wimbledon 2009
Wimbledon 2009: Roger Federer

He came, He saw and He conquered! That says it all about Roger Federer who emerged as the greatest ever in tennis after defeating Robin Soderling in the final match of the French Open Men’s Singles 2009. The Swiss master has 14 grand slam titles to his credit that equals to the number of titles won by all time tennis greats, Pete Sampras of the US. But the catch here is that Fedex has grabbed the French Open title while Sampras was deprived. Sampras never conquered the clay court. Roger Federer was also hungry for this title for a long time and Nadal has been holding him back from achieving this feat. He broke the checks now and so this year it had to be Federer all the way.
What next? Federer will march into the Wimbledon 2009 with pride and confidence and might storm his opponents. Federer clearly remarked that he prioritizes Wimbledon tournament than concentrating on getting back the World No.1 title. He has won the Wimbledon five times, yet last year he was totally dominated by Rafael Nadal who defeated him. This time around it is a different story and Federer is all charged up to take on his opponent on the grass court. But he might have Nadal haunting him somewhere deep within in spite of his ecstatic French victory.
It will be interesting to see the strategies that Roger Federer will apply to win this Grand Slam once again. His lightening speed, strong front hand motion and the service are his assets and great weapons that the opponent will find it difficult to deal with. His service will touch 220km/ph at times and is hard to read the ball at such speed. And he has also turned down to participate in the Gerry Weber Open to rest before the Wimbledon. The doors are wide open for Federer to add another title to his kitty as his rival Nadal is suffering from a knee injury, which might be an advantage. But we have Andy Murray who will be a surprise and might well be a tough competitor to Federer but the French title has inflated him and has cleared all the doubts surrounding his potential but now Federer is all new and the hot favourite who has the greatest opportunity to win the Wimbledon title.
