4-Day Cricket Test Matches from now on?
ICC Chief Suggests Four-Day Tests
The thrill and excitement of T20 needs to get spread in Test cricket as well. T20 has been in the centre stage and has always grabbed headlines. The game rules have changed and that should not mean that the traditional test cricket should be put in the backburner.
According to David Morgan, the President of ICC, hinted changes on test match cricket. He has been quoted saying that the number of days in test matches played will be reduced from five to four days in the coming year.
Crowds need to enjoy test cricket as well and this is the reason why ICC is thinking of an overall revamp. Ideas include day-night and two-tier system test matches. The idea of T20 cricket was to enhance domestic cricket spirit and is designed with emphasis to enrich the same.
Morgan is not very comfortable with doing away the 50 over cricket matches and to keep only test formats and T20 for international cricket. However, he admitted that T20 have greatly enriched 50-over game and that has raised the performance bars of cricketers significantly.
ICC President cited an example with the recently held Indo-England one day series. He pointed out that the sixth game in the seven series match provided with a whole day entertainment to the crowd and to get pleasure for such duration it would have required two T20 matches.
