Whip It 2009 Movie Review – Drew Barrymore
Whip It! Movie Preview- Starring Drew Barrymore
Whip It! is an upcoming comedy film directed by Drew Barrymore and written by Shauna Cross, based on Cross’ novel Derby Girl. The film will be Barrymore’s directorial debut.

The movie Whip It is slated to release on October 09, 2009. The movie is a directorial debut of Drew Barrymore. He also plays a lead role in the film.
The Whip It movie is based on a novel written by Shauna Cross who is also the screenwriter of the movie and interestingly Shauna Cross was a roller derby star.
The story is about Ellen Page who plays the character of Bliss. She forgoes her beauty contest crown to join the roller derby league in Austin to get over the misery that she faces in a small town of Texas. And once she joins the derby team she realises her passion, desires and strengths. Bliss’ mother Mystic River, Pollock is against her joining the derby and Marcia Gay Harden plays this character.
Juliette Lewis and Kristen Wiig play the characters of old roller derby players. The cast of the film also features Daniel Stern, Eve and Jimmy Fallon. Interestingly, Drew Barrymore plays an interesting cameo as Smashley Simpson in the movie.
The director of the film, Drew Barrymore has made some commendable efforts to highlight the female empowerment in the field of roller derby; however on a humorous note. The audience will see Juliette Lewis after a long gap and that may be quite refreshing. Her previous film was Catch and Release which had been received quite well too.
Whip It will be one film we can look forward to with a new director handling the genre of comedy. The film’s budget is $10 million and Barrymore had been toying with this story for sometime before he had finally given shape to her directorial venture. Barrymore has revealed that direction was her eternal dream and the story of Whip it opened the doors to her dream.
